Liberamente ispirato al testo del Cantico dei Cantici, il brano di David Lang Just (after Song of Songs) che accompagna i titoli di coda di Youth - La giovinezza, il nuovo film di Paolo Sorrentino, mi è rimasto nella memoria molto più della Simple Song che invece è presente nel finale del film, nella esecuzione del soprano Sumi Jo con la presenza della violinista Viktoria Mullova e della BBC Concert Orchestra London, diretta da Terry Davis.

Eseguito dal norvegese Trio Mediaeval e dal Trio Saltarello del violista Garth Knox, il brano di David Lang è stato scritto dal compositore (di famiglia ebraica) sottolineando la natura profondamente erotica del Cantico dei Cantici, che diviene metafora della passione verso D-o.

"Una cosa che mi ha sempre colpito di questo testo biblico è che l'uomo e la donna nel Cantico dei cantici hanno attributi fisici, notano aspetti dell'uno e dell'altra, possiedono cose, hanno caratteristiche che li rendono desiderabili. In una relazione d'amore tra due persone questo non sorprende, ma nell'amore tra l'uomo e D-o, tuttavia, questo può significare che in queste parole vi siano degli indizi della natura degli attributi di D-o stesso e una testimonianza di come essi possano rivelarsi attraenti per noi.

Nel mio testo ho elencato ogni cosa personale o posseduta attribuita all'uomo o alla donna. Per chiarire chi sia il parlante ho iniziato ogni frase dell'uomo con "just" e ogni frase della donna con "and my".

È interessante come in un testo che parla di un amore condiviso appaia solo sette volte il "noi" (our).
